Part Three in this series is highlighting the work our Pharmacy Technicians do for us.
Working with patients and staff from The Whickham Practice, Chainbridge Medical Practice, Glenpark & Teams Medical Services and Sunniside Surgery, Pharmacy Technicians work as part of the Pharmacy Pharmacy Team and work under a qualified pharmacist and are responsible for preparing and dispensing medicines to patients.
Primary tasks include:
- Supports SMRs
- Counsels patients on medicines
- Manages prescriptions
- Conducts medicines reconciliation
- Conducts medicines audits
Education and training requirements
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Enrolled in or qualified from an approved training programme that meets the National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians or, for example, Primary care pharmacy education pathway (PCPEP)
