Practice Nursing Staff

A Practice Nurse is present in the practice weekdays from 09:00 until 17:00.  Appointments can be made for a variety of matters particularly immunisations, dressings and the removal of stitches.  The nurses are also available to carry out a variety of health checks including cervical smears, family planning check-ups and advice concerned with heart disease prevention.  We also have Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomists who carry out new patient health checks and take blood for testing.

Community Nursing Staff (District Nurses)

The district nurses visit people who need nursing care in their own homes e.g after operations, when chronically sick or terminally ill. They work closely with Social Services, MacMillan nurses, nurse specialists and voluntary agencies. The district nursing service is a 24 hour service.  Equipment such as wheelchairs, commodes, zimmer frames and walking sticks can be arranged by district nurse or your GP. Health Visitors

Health Visitors work in the community. Their role is the promotion of health and prevention of illness.  They run a variety of clinics including childhood immunisation.  For an appointment with a health visitor you should telephone 0300 003 1918.

In addition special sessions are timetabled for smoking cessation apart from the usual surgery times.  Further information is available on request; please speak to our reception staff.
