COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In COPD the airways in the lungs become narrower which makes it harder for air to get in and out of the lungs.
The word “chronic” means that the problem is long term.
Any person with COPD who has difficulty breathing and finds day to day activities becoming harder can attend the Gateshead Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme. The programme is free and will be run at leisure centres and community venues across Gateshead twice a week for seven weeks, by a team of specially trained staff including a nurse, occupational therapist, exercise instructor and a dietician.
If you would like to take part in this programme please make an appointment with one of our Nursing Sisters.
